Okeke was a first-round pick of the Orlando Magic back in 2019. The 26-year old wing never was able to put things together in Orlando, averaging 6.3 points and 3.7 rebounds while shooting 38.3% from the field.
After four underwhelming seasons with the Magic, Okeke signed a contract with the New York Knicks’ G League affiliate, the Westchester Knicks. In 16 games down in the G League, Okeke averaged 17.3 points, 7.6 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.4 blocks per contest. He also flashed some potential as an outside shooter, connecting on 35.8% of his 9.3 3-pointers per game.
Okeke has the potential to be a useful depth player for the Sixers. At 6-foot-7, he has the size to potentially be a versatile defender. However, his offense has been a major question mark. While he is a career 31.8% shooter from beyond the arc, his improved efficiency on high volume in the G League gives some hope he can develop his offensive skillset.
As it currently stands after the Okeke signing, the Sixers still have one roster spot remaining. They could fill it through the buyout market, but a more likely scenario involves converting one of their two-way contracts to a standard deal. Justin Edwards has played well this season. Jared Butler, whom the team acquired at the trade deadline, also has a fair shot at earning a full-time roster spot.
