According to reports out of Dallas, the Cowboys are set to promote offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer to head coach.

Yes, that sound you hear is laughing.

It was widely believed that current Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore was the leader in the clubhouse for the Cowboys head coaching job. Other names rumored to be “in play” for the Cowboys included former defensive back turned University of Colorado head coach Deion Sanders. In the end, Neon Deion didn’t pan out either

Instead, Dallas owner/GM/defacto head coach Jerry Jones decided to stay in house and go with his current OC. Ironically enough, Schottenheimer – who has zero head coaching experience– was not the play caller for Dallas during his two years as OC. That duty fell to now departed head coach Mike McCarthy.

The takeaway for Eagles fans … this hire should mean more of the same old stuff from the Birds’ NFC East division rivals. Perfect!

As for Moore, the Birds’ OC is still a candidate for the Jaguars and Saints gigs. However, his name does not appear to be trending for either opening. It’s looking increasingly likely that Moore will be staying in Philly and bringing some much-needed stability to the Eagles offensive coordinator position.
