No rule in hockey — and some might say sports — is more asinine than that of the so-called “loser” point which awards the defeated club by simply making it to overtime with a point. So with the league looking to improve upon the shootout by changing how many times a team’s star can shoot, it should also look to improve the overall game by ceasing to incentivize overtime.
The Flyers trailed the Dallas Stars entering the final five minutes of regulation on Saturday only to get two quick power-play goals that turned the game in their favor and kept their winning streak alive for another day. Here are 10 Postgame Points from Flyers-Stars.
Brayden Schenn, who had already scored once in the game, picked up the tying goal on the power play with 3:48 to play. He scored another power-play goal with 2:15 left to complete a hat trick and another comeback, as the Flyers brought their winning streak to eight straight games with a 4-2 win over the Dallas Stars on Saturday afternoon at Wells Fargo Center.

The Flyers are now in third place in the Metropolitan Division of the Eastern Conference, only 2 points behind the New York Rangers and the Pittsburgh Penguins who are tied for first with 37 points. The Flyers currently are only four points behind the Montreal Canadiens for the most points in the league.
Connor McDavid clearly hasn’t forgotten the other player involved in the collision that led to a broken collarbone last season. He exchanged words with Brandon Manning several times on the ice on Thursday and after the game called out the Flyers defenseman.
