The Philadelphia Phillies continue to add pitching depth this offseason. Days after acquiring lefty Jesus Luzardo from Miami, the club has announced the signing of veteran pitcher Joe Ross. According to MLB Insider Matt Gelb, the deal is a one-year, $4 million contract.

The 31-year-old righty is expected to fill the “swingman” role for the Phillies in 2025.  A longtime starter, Ross transitioned to the bullpen last season for the Milwaukee Brewers and recorded a 1.67 ERA in 15 appearances. As a reliver in 2024, Ross held opposing batters to a .220 BAA and recorded scoreless outings in 12 of his 15 relief appearances.

The Phillies have designated right-handed pitcher Jose Cuas for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster.
