The Philadelphia Phillies have officially announced the acquisition of starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo from the Miami Marlins. MLB Insider Mark Fiensand was the first to break the news.

As part of the trade, the Phillies also acquired minor league catcher Paul McIntosh in exchange for rising prospects Emaarion Boyd and Starlyn Caba.

The 27-year-old was drafted in the 3rd round of 2016 MLB Draft by the Washington Nationals. Luzardo was considered a first round talent but suffered from a UCL tear and Tommy John surgery prior to the 2016 MLB Draft. He was traded to Oakland in July 2017 and would ultimately make his MLB debut for the Athletics in 2019. Luzardo would be traded to Miami in July 2021.

Since his 2019 MLB debut, Luzardo has spent significant time on the injured list with a case of COVID-19, a fractured pinky, a left forearm strain, and a lumbar issue, respectively. He has a career record of 26-34 with a 4.29 ERA and 559 strikeouts. Luzardo is under team control for the next three seasons.
