It comes as a shock given that Alexander spoke with the media last week and seemed thrilled to be in Philadelphia and mentioned he felt better physically.
The Eagles just traded back in the draft with the Ravens to acquire the veteran, so those interviews were his first impression to the fans.
Alexander has had his career go a bit off the rails in recent years due to injuries and it’d be reasonable to assume that that has lead to at least part of the mental aspects he’s looking to right.
Of course, the hope is Alexander gets everything set straight in his life, but it is still a bit disappointing that the Eagles may never get to see him take the field or get the chance to revive his career.
That said, Alexander could still choose to return at a later date if he decides not to retire and that would likely put him in the best position to have a career revival as possible.
Reports indicate that the talks about this have been happening between he and the Eagles front office in an open manner.
