Eagles Open Willie Lampkin’s Practice Window

The Eagles are looking at even more potential reinforcements.

On Tuesday, they opened Nolan Smith’s practice window.

On Thursday, they did the same for UDFA Willie Lampkin.

Lampkin was an undrafted free agent this year and was in camp with the Rams, but suffered an injury that lead to his release.

The Eagles decided to make a waiver claim to get him to Philadelphia and then they placed him on IR just two days later.

Lampkin impressed in the preseasons and that’s what brought him to the Eagles.

The Birds have had trouble on the interior offensive line, but Brett Toth made fans eat crow after getting two starts and playing the majority of the last three games.

That eases the Eagles need for Lampkin and, frankly, as a developmental depth piece, he isn’t guaranteed to return to the 53-man roster this season. The team could just choose not to activate him and let him spend the remainder of the season getting ready for camp next year – they did that very same thing with Jordan Mailata early on in his career.

The practice window being opened, however, allows Lampkin to train with the team for several weeks regardless of what happens, so he can familiarize himself better with teammates and the offense overall.

The Eagles currently have one spot on the 53-man roster and could look to return Jakorian Bennett and Nolan Smith in addition to Lampkin.
