NFL Free Agency: Eagles Re-Signing Ben VanSumeren
The Eagles have made their first signing after the negotiating period opened.
On Wednesday, the team reached a deal to bring back Ben Van Sumeren.
The Eagles are re-signing LB/FB Ben VanSumeren to a one-year deal, a source confirmed. BVS was an exclusive rights free agent.
VanSumeren suffered a season-ending knee injury in November but as of locker cleanout day was hoping to be ready for OTAs.

VanSumeren seemed like he could be in line for a larger defensive role beyond special teams last preseason, but then Zack Baun took over the scene.
BVS had just started playing on offense as the Eagles looked to use him as a fullback when he suffered a season-ending injury.
His return, if he’s healthy, is a shot for the linebacking corps that otherwise only has Baun and Jerimiah Trotter Jr. healthy to start next season.
The Eagles also did pick up a fullback following BVS’ injury, so he may still be in the running to be FB1 again next year.
