Kyle McCord, Syracuse

The Eagles, somewhat surprisingly, either didn’t or couldn’t trade into a future draft and wound up making four different selections in the sixth round of the draft.

It started out with the QB factory getting billing when the team selected Kyle McCord out of Syracuse.

After three years at Ohio State, the Mt, Laurel native transferred to Syracuse and put up a career best 4,779 yards and 34 touchdowns.

He’ll immediately enter a QB competition with Dorian Thompson-Robinson for the third QB spot and it may come down to who picks up and fits best into the offensive scheme (though more team control is a benefit to McCord).

Then the team got Stoutland University two more tackles.

Hinton, out of Michigan, spent three years at Stanford before spending the last two in Ann Arbor. He has played both left and right tackle in college, which is a positive.

The negatives are his missing seven games to injury over the last three seasons and his technique. The size is there, so if Stoutland can clean up the play and Hinton stays healthy, he could be a steal.

Cameron Williams, who spent three seasons at Texas, is a less developed player in largely the same boat.

He received penalties far too much and he has only played at right tackle for parts of two seasons. He has the size (perhaps too much as he’s been up over 370lbs), so this is a development pick.

It’ll come down to if he has the drive to clean up his play and get to the weight Stoutland wants (perhaps how he does on the left side of the line) that ultimately will decide if he sticks with the team or not.

The team closed out their draft with OLB Antwaun Powell-Ryland.

After spending three seasons at Florida, Powell-Ryland transferred to Virginia Tech and was a standout in the ACC.

He hasn’t show the coverage ability or ball skills that’d make it seem likely the Eagles will have him dropping into coverage, but he recorded 9.5 sacks in 2023 and 16 in 2024, with three forced fumbles each season. He also recorded 83 tackles with 23.5 being for loss.

He figures to be more of an edge rusher in the NFL based off his college play, but he is also someone who attacks ball carriers, so he shouldn’t need to be a passing-down only type of player if he earns the roster spot.
