The Flyers first round played out a lot like 2023, when they got Matvei Michkov and Oliver Bonk. They had a potential top-line winger in Porter Martone fall into their laps at sixth overall. Then they traded up and took a chance on center Jack Nesbitt and his upside.

The Flyers traded up to the 12th overall pick, sending 22nd and 31st overall to the Pittsburgh Penguins, and selected center Jack Nesbitt.

Flyers GM Danny Briere was buttoned-up as usual at last week’s pre-draft presser. On Monday, four days before the draft, he made a significant trade to acquire Trevor Zegras. Briere called it “a risk worth taking,” showing his willingness to take swings to improve the team.
