Eagles Offseason: Birds Exercise Davis’ Fifth-Year Option

The Eagles made their first decision on the fifth-year options prior to the draft last weekend.
With the May 1 deadline looming, the Eagles have opted to pick-up Davis’ fifth-year option at $12.9 million.

Davis has been a largely ineffective pass rusher since arriving in Philadelphia, but he’s been a stout run-stopper and gap-filler. The thing that excites the Eagles, however, is his playoff run last year where he began to turn into the pass rusher they envisioned in addition to his run-game prowess.
It’s a hefty price tag, but not unusual for a starting defensive lineman. If he does pan out this year like he did in the playoffs last year, it’ll be a steal for next seasons.
The Eagles now have team control through 2026 and could begin to discuss a longer-term extension with Davis’ camp.
