Flyers Ground the Jets

Bryz Winnipeg

The Philadelphia Flyers beat the Winnipeg Jets by a score of 3 to 2.

Brayden Schenn started off the scoring after battling in front of goaltender Al Montoya. He earned his third goal of the year and now has six points in his last six games.

Winnipeg captain Andrew Ladd scored on a quick shot over Bryzgalov to tie the score with about five minutes to go in the 1st period.

The Flyers capitalized on a power play towards the end of the first period. Kimmo Timonen let a shot go just as Wayne Simmonds screened Montoya to allow the Flyers to take a 2 to 1 lead.

The second period was quiet in regards to goal scoring. Tye McGinn dropped the gloves with Mark Stuart in an entertaining fight where both players landed solid punches.

Tye McGinn also made his presence felt when he scored in the 3rd period. McGinn tipped the puck past Ondrej Pavolec off of a pass from Voracek. The puck went off of McGinn's skate then stick before passing Pavolec. Pavolec came in net at the start of the 3rd period in relief for Montoya who suffered a lower body injury.

Andrew Ladd made things interesting when he scored his second goal of the night with only 47 seconds left in regulation time. The Jets again pulled the goalie after this goal, but were stopped short of a tying goal.

Harry Zolnierczyk brought his speed and energy to the Flyers lineup tonight against the Jets. He was recalled from the Phantoms after Sean Couturier was sent home because of the flu. Zolnierczyk used his speed to create a quality scoring chance on a breakaway in the first period.

Agitator Zac Rinaldo showed great discipline tonight by drawing two penalties on Winnipeg. He also showed maturity when he did not retaliate after defenseman Dustin Byfuglien threw him to the ice and slashed him while he was falling down.

The Flyers played with more energy and composure after a horrible game against Toronto on Monday night. It took half of the first period for the Flyers to find their legs and calm down, but their play consisted of an all-around team effort that was absent the previous night.

The next Flyers game will be against the Devils Friday night in New Jersey.
