Just when you thought the Sixers figured out their backup center situation, something goes wrong. The Sixers announced that Richaun Holmes suffered a broken wrist in their preseason game against the Boston Celtics on Friday.

The injury is expected to keep Holmes out for at least three weeks, as he will need recovery time. The Sixers are now in desperate need of additional center options with now both Joel Embiid and Holmes not cleared to begin to play yet.

This leaves Jahlil Okafor as the only current option at center for the Sixers until Embiid is ready to play, which is unclear as of now.

Okafor was still technically playing a limited amount of minutes as he's also recovering from a knee injury, so the need for a healthy center is vital at this point.

Brett Brown said that he will look at Dario Saric playing center if need be, but this seems like it's a stretch on whether or not this would be a good idea or not.

I see Okafor playing more minutes in preseason, splitting time with Saric in a starting role. Emeka Okafor is another option at center off the bench, but Emeka is unlikely to have a roster spot once the regular season rolls around.

With the Sixers on the road tomorrow night in Boston for their third preseason game, looking for their first win, Markelle Fultz is probable to play, as well as Saric, who has been resting due to playing all summer internationally.

Although Joel Embiid said that he thinks playing in the preseason would be beneficial to him, and he's right, the team is still on the fence on whether or not it's the right time to clear him.

If worse comes to worst, the Sixers may have to resort to picking up an additional center in free agency, if they still need someone to help out Okafor once Embiid and Holmes are healthy.
