Roy Oswalt did not look like his dominate self in the first inning as he gave up three runs (including 2 run homerun). However, he held the Cubs scoreless for 6 innings. He allowed seven hits, two walks and struck out five (he notched his 1,700 strikeout).

Cubs starter, Doug Davis allowed 10 baserunners in five innings. It did not work. The Phillies only managed to score two runs. Davis gave up five hits and five walks. He left leading, 3-2.

Charlie Manuel was ejected for arguing balls and strikes with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning. He was tossed by HP Alan Porter while still in the dugout after Oswalt struck out looking on a fastball. It was his second ejection of the season.

Ryan Howard’s three-RBI day included a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh. Phils took the lead, 4-3.

Michael Stutes pitched a scoreless inning in the 8th with 2 Ks. No questions asked please.

After his first blown save of the season, Ryan Madson pitched a scoreless inning as Chase Utley made a fantastic catch to seal the deal. Roy Oswalt gets his fourth win of the season and the first win since April. Ryan Madson gets the save. And a series win!

Phillies are the first team to reach 40 wins of the season. They are off tomorrow before starting a 4 game series with Florida Marlins.
