Worley Shaky Again in 6-2 Loss to Brewers

Vance Worley's inconsistent starts are becoming more and more painful to watch. After just 4 and 2/3, this became a bullpen game. But, the damage had already been done by the Brew Crew by that point.

In what felt like the longest fourth inning in baseball history, the Phils scored first before the Brewers took a strong lead. Ryan Howard doubled to deep center to score Chase Utley, putting the Phils on the board.

In the bottom of the inning, Nyjer Morgan tripled to right-center (Dom Brown had leaped for the ball, dropped it, and slammed into the wall) to score Cory Hart and Martin Maldonado. Yovani Gallardo later singled to right to score Morgan and Jean Segura.

After four and 2/3 innings, Vance was taken out of the ballgame. He allowed four earned runs on seven hits, walking three and striking out three. His pitch count was way too high at 99 to remain in the game.

B.J. Rosenberg took his place on the mound for the remainder of the fifth and the sixth inning. Ryan Braun took a big swing in the sixth for his 32nd home run of the season, a two-run jack to center which put his team up 6-1.

Raul Valdes pitched an inning of relief tonight, giving up one hit, and striking out one. Jeremy Horst also came in for an inning, allowing a hit, walking one, and striking out two.

Livan Hernandez came in for the ninth inning for the Brewers. With two outs, Laynce Nix doubled down the right field line. Kevin Frandsen singled to center, bringing home Nix. Schneider ended it with a pop-up to center. 6-2 final.

Cole Hamels, coming off two complete game shutouts, will start tomorrow night's game against Mike Fiers at 7:10.
