The Phillies and Astros squared off this afternoon in sunny Kissimmee, Florida. Cole Hamels took the mound for the Phils against Brad Peacock.
In the bottom of the first inning, Hamels gave up a double to Tyler Greene. Greene later scored on a groundout from Chris Carter. After that double, Hamels found a groove and retired 14 straight batters before walking Brandon Laird in the fifth inning.
Meanwhile, the Phils picked up a few runs to give themselves an advantage over Houston. In the top of the fourth, Laynce Nix launched a solo homer into right field putting his team on the board. Later in the fifth inning, Freddy Galvis scored on a double from Kevin Frandsen. The hits continued in the next inning with a two-run triple from Erik Kratz which scored Jermaine Mitchell and Michael Young. Kratz later scored on a single off the bat of Galvis.
In the top of the seventh, Yuniesky Betancourt singled to bring home Cesar Hernandez, pushing the Phillies' lead to 6-1.
Cole Hamels' line from this afternoon: 5 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K. His ERA stands at 0.90. Tyler Cloyd pitched an inning of relief in the sixth and struck out one.
Zach Miner walked one and struck out two in the seventh inning for the Phils. If you're keeping score, the Astros collected a whopping one hit all day, Greene's double back in the first inning.
Justin De Fratus closed it out, keeping the Astros at one hit. Phils won this one, 6-1.
Off day tomorrow for Philadelphia. Tuesday they will face the Tigers at home in Clearwater.
