Jimmy Rollins Returns To Lineup As Phillies Host Yankees

The Phillies were obliterated, 17-10 yesterday at the hand of the Atlanta Braves. Overall, the Phillies played terribly, accounting for three errors in the loss. Rodrigo Lopez took the loss after allowing 8 runs (7 earned) across two innings. This morning Lopez was optioned to minor-league camp after four appearances this spring. Lopez, 37, will provide depth in Lehigh-Valley, but does have an out in his contract if a big league team offers a Major League deal.

Today, Kyle Kendrick (0-2, 9.00 ERA) will make his fourth start of the spring as he takes on the New York Yankees. Kendrick hasn't made a start since March 8th, against Tampa Bay. In that outing, Kendrick surrendered three earned runs on five hits while striking out three over four innings in a losing effort. Kendrick pitched against the Yankees once before this spring back on February 26th. The Phillies' right-hander allowed an earned run on three hits through two innings of work.

Opposing the Phillies will be Adam Warren (0-1, 11.43 ERA), who is making his fourth start of the spring. The right-hander's last start, against Toronto on Thursday, Warren was lit up for eight earned runs on four hits over 1 1/3 innings of work. Warren struggled immensely with his command as he walked five Blue Jays. Warren has never faced the Phillies' lineup in his career.

Jimmy Rollins is back in the Phillies lineup after a two and half week absence due to the World Baseball Classic. During the tournament, the Phillies' short-stop batted .417 (10-for-24), hit one home run, drove in four runs, and bagged two triples over eight games. Hopefully Jimmy brings back his A-game to the Phillies.

Game Notes:

  • Jimmy Rollins is leading off in Charlie Manuel's lineup for the first time since March 1st.
  • CF Jermaine Mitchell is hitting .412 (7-for-17) with three triples in 17 games this Spring.
  • Domonic Brown continues to impress with a .400 average, 5 HR, and 11 RBI in 21 games.
