Michael Young Dealt To Los Angeles Dodgers

Well, the one trade that seemed all but certain at the non-waiver traded deadline has happened. The Phillies tonight traded the contract of Michael Young to the Los Angeles Dodgers for a player to be named. The trade was the second veteran dealt today.

The Dodgers could likely use Young on the left side of the infield where they have dealt with frequent Hanley Ramirez injuries. Young most certainly is playoff bound. Young reportedly was willing to accept trades to just the New York Yankees, Texas Rangers, and Boston Red Sox prior to the July 31 non-waiver deadline but must have waived his no-trade protection for a playoff opportunity.

Chances are, the haul will not be as good as the Phillies got for Shane Victorino; ironically Young was acquired for bullpen piece Josh Lindblom. But most importantly, Young's departure will open up some opportunities for some young players. That is worth it.
