The Philadelphia Eagles are on the verge of re-signing free-agent wide receiver Riley Cooper according to a Philadelphia Inquirer report.
The report citing NFL sources says that a deal could be announced in the next few days with the team's 2010 fifth-round draft choice. Cooper finished last season with a career best 47 receptions for 835 yards and eight touchdowns.
Meanwhile, the team is also likely to re-sign Jeremy Maclin who missed all of 2014 with a torn ACL suffered during training camp.
Before suffering his injury, there were high hopes for Maclin who has averaged 64 receptions for 863 yards and six touchdowns since becoming the Eagles first-round draft choice in 2009, for his first season under head coach Chip Kelly.
Both Cooper and Maclin along with fellow receiver Jason Avant were set to become free agents when the league year opens on March 11th and it appears that the team's top two targets of quarterback Nick Foles will likely be brought back into the fold before the market opens.
Earlier this off-season Maclin made it clear that he would be willing to return to Philadelphia on a one-year 'show me' deal knowing that he could cash in either with an extension next season or hit the market next spring with the help of a big year on the field.
These two contracts likely take the Eagles out of the running for one of the premier wide receiver prospects in the first round of May's NFL draft such as Kelvin Benjamin of Florida State and Allen Robinson of Penn State among others.
Earlier Wednesday the team announced that it had re-signed left tackle Jason Peters to a five-year extension. Peters has appeared in six of the past seven Pro Bowls and was a first-team All-Pro in 2013.
