Eagles Camp 2014: Highlights and happenings from Day 10

The headlines from Day 10 of Eagles camp aren’t about what happened on the field but who was off the field.

The Eagles first preseason game is Friday and as the day creeps closer, the injuries are starting to pile up.

The most notable injury was Jeremy Maclin. Maclin started practice but landed awkwardly after a catch along the sidelines that looked like it would relate to last season’s knee injury.

Maclin ran another play and made a catch, but pulled himself out of practice after that.

"I'll be back out there tomorrow," Maclin said.

Also missing from practice was Nolan Carroll. Carroll has been a success story of camp, so it is alarming to see the cornerback out even for a day. Carroll’s injury is said to be the routine pain that is felt after days of camp.

Here are the rest of the highlights and happenings from Day 10 of Eagles camp:

  • Defensive coordinator Billy Davis spoke before practice and expressed his excitement to see the Eagles defense at work in game action. But the player he’s most excited to see may surprise you. Davis noted that outside linebackers Brandon Graham and Marcus Smith II are the two players he really is looking forward to seeing against Chicago.
  • The Eagles released the first look at the depth chart announcing the starters for Friday’s game against the Bears. Graham and Smith are on the second-team.
  • Brad Smith is listed as the team’s first-string slot receiver over rookie Jordan Matthews.
  • The Eagles didn’t make any changes from last season at cornerback on the depth chart just yet but they did list someone unexpected in the starting strong safety spot. It will be Nate Allen, not Earl Wolff, starting Friday’s game.
  • Bennie Logan will get a look up front at nose tackle to start on Friday between Cedric Thornton and Fletcher Cox.
  • Darren Sproles is listed as second-team running back and punt returner. Nolan Carroll is listed as the primary kick returner.
  • Injury Report: In addition to Carroll and Maclin sitting out practice, Cary Williams was limited for the second straight day. Bennie Logan missed practice once again. Jake Knott, Riley Cooper, Chris Polk and Julian Vandervelde were sidelined once again.

The Eagles will hold practice at the NovaCare Complex again on Tuesday morning at 11:45 a.m. Chip Kelly will address the media before practice. LeSean McCoy and Jeremy Maclin will speak after practice.
