You know all the good feelings there were from playing a sloppy game but escaping with a 20-point win over the Giants. Throw them out the window.
Yes, the Carolina Panthers are undefeated. Yes, the Eagles hadn't really seen an opponent quite like this since Week 1.
It's still no excuse. The Eagles continued to show their inconsistency and lack of fundamentals as the season moves into its second half.
Here is this week's report card.
Pass Offense: There were more struggles for Sam Bradford, but it was really the receivers at fault. Seven drops, as far as we know, were tallied by the Eagles in a game when opportunities came flowing in. For the struggles the team had collectively in Carolina, the drops were the most noticeable and frustrating. D
Run Offense: Efforts like the one the running game turned in are normally good enough to win games, but not when there is no balance on offense. Ryan Mathews scored the Eagles only touchdown with a 63-yard run and combined Mathews and DeMarco Murray helped the Eagles reach over 170 yards on the ground. But with the struggles in the passing game, they weren't going to be good enough on their own. B+
Pass Defense: Three interceptions certainly help the grade, but there were some coverage mistakes on Ted Ginn Jr., Corey Brown and Greg Olsen that are inexcusable. It wasn't Cam Newton's best night, but he was able to be effective because he had time. As in, the pass rush was not nearly good enough. B-
Run Defense: Easily the worst game out of the run defense, who allowed 204 yards on the ground to Jonathan Stewart and Co. They've seen better days, but they had carried the team for most of the season. In hindsight, they were almost due for a game like this. C
Special Teams: Caleb Sturgis made three field goals, including one from 52 yards. That was the good. But a kickoff out of bounds, that led directly to a Panthers touchdown drive, and a 50-yard miss that would have cut the Carolina lead to two were costly. Still too many mistakes on that side of the ball as well. C+
Overall: When you play a team like Carolina, you have to play well from start to finish. It's hard to say the Eagles did anything particularly well on Sunday and the scoreboard reflected that. They got exactly what they had coming to them with an undefeated team. C+
