The Eagles have spent the first portion of the offseason shoring up their existing roster. Another piece was secured on Monday.
The Eagles have agreed to a five-year contract extension with safety Malcolm Jenkins. The deal will keep him with the Eagles through 2020. The deal is worth $40.5 million.
Jenkins was signed by the Eagles in the offseason prior to the 2014 season to a three-year deal. This would have been the final year of his contract, but the new deal will begin with the 2016 season.
In his two seasons with the Eagles, Jenkins has played in all 32 games, recording 154 tackles, five forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and five interceptions. He also has two returns for touchdowns.
He was also named to his first Pro Bowl in 2015.
Jenkins joins Brent Celek, Zach Ertz, Lane Johnson and Vinny Curry as players to get contract extensions with the Eagles this offseason. The Eagles are also working on deals for Fletcher Cox and have interest in bringing back Walter Thurmond.
Jenkins spent the first five seasons of his career with the New Orleans Saints. The 28-year-old defensive back will play his eighth NFL season in 2016.
