Final: Blue Jays 2, Phillies 1  ❖  Attendance: 4,975

DUNEDIN, Fla. – In a game dominated by pitching, the Toronto Blue Jays used a late two-run home run to top the Philadelphia Phillies this afternoon, 2-1. Excluding a tie with the Twins last week, the Phillies have now lost their last five Spring Training Games.

Starting pitching was the highlight of the game with both Vince Velasquez and Marcus Stroman impressing for their respective clubs. After being named the fifth starter earlier, Velasquez dazzled over six innings, scattering just two hits while walking one and striking out eight. Stroman, in his fourth start of the spring, tossed four scoreless innings

Tomorrow, the Phillies host the Yankees split squad at Bright House Field. Masahiro Tanaka goes for New York while the Phillies have not named a starter. Adam Morgan was scheduled to start, but he was among nine players sent to the minors prior to today's game.

WP: Matt Dermody (1-0, 0.00 ERA)  ❖  LP: Dalier Hinojosa (0-1, 4.50 ERA) ❖  SV: Danny Barnes (1)

The Phillies took a 1-0 advantage in the seventh, courtesy of a Darin Ruf solo home run, his fourth of the spring. Cameron Rupp followed with a double and Peter Bourjos walked, but the Phillies failed to capitalize and ended the inning holding to a one-run lead.

Toronto took the lead in the bottom of the eighth. Josh Thole singled to lead things off and made it to second on a sac bunt from Ezequiel Carrera. Two batters later, Darrell Ceciliani drove a two-run homer over the wall in right center to give the Jays a 2-1 lead. Danny Barnes set the Phillies down 1-2-3 in the ninth to secure the Blue Jays their 17th win of the preseason.
