Venable debuts with the Phillies vs. Tanaka and Yankees

New York Yankees (11-13) Philadelphia Phillies (14-10)
RHP Masahiro Tanaka LHP Brett Oberholtzer
(1-1, 7.36 ERA) (1-0, 0.00 ERA)

It's the second to the last Clearwater game for the Phillies this spring but new things await. Recently signed Will Venable leads off for the Phillies this afternoon and will start in left field. It seems highly likely he will make the Opening Day roster but it is a minor league invite which seems to suggest he could still be bad enough in these final few exhibition games to make Luis Castillo seem like a tenured veteran with the home club. The smart money seems to suggest he'll begin the season in red pinstripes.

Brett Oberholtzer starts this afternoon. He seems a lock for a bullpen job after having a great spring competing for the 5th starter job. The brass get another look at some relievers this afternoon and considering the lineup the Yankees are sending out there, it's pretty important that anyone who is on the bubble pitch lights out today. It isn't the '27 team for sure.

Brian McCann and Aaron Hicks pose the biggest threat in the Yankees line up with a mixture of bench players, Quad-A talent, and prospects filling out the line up. Masahiro Tanaka starts this afternoon who has pitched to mixed results this spring but is in the mix to be Opening Day starter.
