Eickhoff looks to hault 9-game skid, take one against Twins

By Greg Vince, Sports Talk Philly staff writer

Starting Pitching Matchup:

Philadelphia Phillies (30-43) Minnesota Twins (23-48)
RHP Jerad Eickhoff RHP Ricky Nolasco
(4-9, 3.49 ERA) (3-4, 4.91 ERA)

Well one would think the Phillies would be able to take at least one from the Minnesota Twins and unfortunately that is where we are at as they send Jerad Eickhoff to the hill today to stop this unbearable skid. Nine losses in a row is never easy to take. Nine losses that have looked like this has been enough for even this die hard to reach for the remote a few times.

That being said, Eickhoff is pitching the best of anyone right now and seems like a good bet to help get the team back in control as they have certainly found the floor this season. He finished an out short of a quality start last time out against Arizona where he was lifted two outs into the 6th inning after allowing three earned runs and striking out six.

Standing in the Phillies' way of a much needed victory is an old foe in Ricky Nolasco. During his time with the Marlins, Nolasco was good to give the Phils a tough time. Lifetime, he's 8-6 against them with a 3.75 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP. Of course this is a different team and he isn't the pitcher he once was. Both seem to have their negatives working against them at this point but Nolasco is coming off a strong outing against the Yankees where he pitched seven strong innings of two run ball.
