Phillies activate Stumpf from restricted list

The Phillies have announced that Rule 5 draft pick Daniel Stumpf has been reinstated from the restricted list following a 60 game suspension for testing positive for performance enhancing drugs. Stumpf has been rehabbing in the minor league system posting a 6.48 ERA in seven games (8.1 innings) as he made his way through Clearwater, Reading and Lehigh Valley.

To make room for Stumpf the Phils optioned Severino Gonzalez to Lehigh Valley. Gonzalez had been pitching well in Philly out of the bullpen and one would think his stay won't be too long before he comes back, assuming a few bullpen pieces could be moved prior to the trade deadline. To make room on the 40 man, Mario Hollands, who has been pitching in Lehigh following rehab from Tommy John Surgery, has been designated for assignment. Hollands had been pitching quite well with a 2.31 ERA through eight games (11.2) innings and I think the hope is that he clears waivers. It seems like a risky gamble.
