Report: Cavaliers have inquired about a Markelle Fultz trade

By Josh Liddick, Sports Talk Philly contributor

According to Sam Amico of Amico Hoops, the Cleveland Cavaliers have reportedly spoken with the Philadelphia 76ers about former first overall draft pick Markelle Fultz and a possible trade for the disgruntled point guard.

Fultz has seen his stock drop dramatically over the last year, after missing most of his rookie season due to a shoulder injury that ended up being a severe case of the yips. Fultz came back this season after working with renowned shooting coach Drew Hanlen, but he barely progressed from last season, now seeing his playing time disappear after zero production on the court. After a suffering an apparent wrist injury, he's now scheduled to meet with a specialist on the injury on Monday to come up with a possible solution.

Fultz is averaging 8.2 points and 3.1 assists per game this season, including shooting just 42 percent from the field. He is 21-of-37 from the free throw line this season.

Perhaps the biggest news of the weekend for Fultz may possibly not even become news in the end, as Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported on Friday that the Sixers were contemplating trading Fultz. Derek Bodner of The Athletic also reported that Fultz himself had requested a trade from the team, but agent Raymond Brothers denied the report in a statement to ESPN

According to Amico, league sources have told him that the Cavs are inquiring about acquiring the services of Fultz. The return is not yet known, but the Sixers have been known to be enamored with the potential of reuniting with veteran sharpshooter Kyle Korver, and this could be the way to get him back in Philadelphia.

Rather than focusing on a 37 year old jump shooter with a 2 year deal, we should look at using Fultz as part of a larger deal to fill out the roster. Say like this:

Fultz, Chandler, Bolden, Beal, Daniels and Anderson to MIA
Richardson, Olynyk and Jackson to PHI
Waiters ,Z. Smith and 2019 PHI 1st to Wash
Dragic, J Johnson and Winslow to Phx
