After Twin Bill With White Sox, Phillies Turn To Hamels In An Effort For A .500 Record Before All-Star Break

The Phillies and White Sox played a total of 24 innings of baseball between yesterday afternoon and early this morning. On a Saturday that provided a twin bill, the Phils and Sox took both games into extras. Chicago took the first in 11, but the Phillies struck back later in game two and won in 13 innings. At 47-48, the Phillies have a chance to head into the All-Star break with a .500 record. They will send out Cole Hamels (4-11, 4.17 ERA) in an effort to finish off the first half of the year on a high note as the White Sox will send out Jose Quintana (4-2, 3.67 ERA) in an effort to do the same.

Cole Hamels may finally be finding his groove – and hopefully it's not too late. Hamels dominated the Nationals on Tuesday, throwing eight solid innings of one-run ball. Hamels struck out four, walked one and surrendered six hits en route to his fourth win on the year. Hamels has been solid in his last three outings posting a 2-0 record and a 2.57 ERA (6 ER in 21 IP). This year against AL teams Hamels is 0-2 (Kansas City, Cleveland and Minnesota) with an 8.33 ERA (15 ER in 16 2/3 IP). The Phillies' lefthander will look to turn it around against the White Sox, a team he has one career start against – a win.

Jose Quintana is coming off of his first win since May 21st. Taking his first decision after seven-straight no-decisions, Quintana will look to take this three-game set away from the Phillies. On Tuesday against the Tigers, Quintana out-deuled Justin Verlander – allowing three earned on six hits through eight solid innings. With run support and seven strike outs, Quintana was able to pull out the W. Quintana has just one interleague start this year, losing to the Cubs back in May. This afternoon will be the lefthander's first career start against the Phillies.
