Mexico Repeats As Caribbean Series Champions

In a 7-1 victory, Mexico defeated Puerto Rico to recapture the Caribbean Series crown on Saturday night. Former Phillies outfielder Chris Roberson took home the Series MVP, hitting .370 with two home runs and six RBIs. Phillies farmhand Sebastian Valle drove in four of the runs on Saturday with a grand slam and did quite well himself with the stick during the tournament with two home runs and seven RBIs, batting .333.

Arroyo and Maholm and Ripping Yourself Off

Bronson Arroyo and Paul Maholm both signed contracts this weekend. One was for 2 years and $25 million. The other was for 1 year and $1.5 million. I for one lobbied on this blog for Arroyo to be signed to the Phillies so I can't act like the Diamondbacks made a bad move but within a day, Maholm who numbers wise (save for innings pitched) is quite similar to Arroyo was signed up by Los Angeles for a ton less. It's not say that one deserves more or less and who are we to judge the value but it's a very interesting comparison to be made between the two.

Royals Place Emilio Bonifacio on Release Waivers

Emilio Bonifacio is yours for $3.5 million which means he'll clear waivers most certainly and will be available to sign with any team once this process is complete. Bonifacio hit very well for the Dominican Republic during the Caribbean Series and throughout winter ball all together and his versatility is bound to land him a job somewhere.

Ervin Santana Close To a Deal

Ken Rosenthalreported yesterday that the Ervin Santana market is reaching a boil.  The Orioles and the Blue Jays seem to be favorites but reports have other teams with serious interest as well.  While the Phillies don't appear to have any interest in adding players at this moment, they might be in the mix if the price is right.
