BREAKING: Adam Schefter Reports that DeMarco Murray is Heading to Philly with the Intent to Sign with Eagles

Per Adam Schefter, DeMarco Murray is on a plane to Philadelphia with the intent to sign with the Eagles, unless Dallas comes with a last minute offer.

Per Adam Schefter's Facebook page: "Pro-Bowl RB DeMarco Murray is flying to Philadelphia this morning with the expectation he will be an Eagle, per a league source. Dallas has had numerous chances to resign Murray throughout the year and now. Aside from the contract, the Eagles are most appealing to Murray because of his belief in their chance to win. Murray would consider a final, last minute offer from the cowboys, per source, but he's going to Philadelphia with the intent to sign."

Mike Fischer, of 103.5 The Fan in Dallas suggests Murray has already decided to sign with the Eagles:

It is unclear whether Murray actually intends to sign with the Birds, or is just using the Eagles as leverage to get a better offer from the Cowboys. While Murray has shown signs that he wants to come to Philly — by reaching out to Chip Kelly to express his interest, and to reunite with his former college roommate, Sam Bradford — the last sentence of Shefter's post leaves me skeptical.

It seems, at least to me, painfully obvious that Murray wants to be with the Cowboys, and his agent is using this ploy as a last ditch attempt to get the Cowboys to improve their offer.

Another thing worth monitoring is the situation with Ryan Mathews. While he has agreed in principle to a deal with the Eagles, it is unclear whether Murray signing with Philadelphia changes that equation. Per Adam Schefter, it might:

It also is unclear whether the Eagles would want to invest this much money in the running back position. In addition to potentially paying Murray anywhere form $6-8 million, and Mathews $3.5 million, the Eagles are paying Darren Sproles $4.1 million this year, and have tendered Chris Polk a $1.6 million contract. Even if Murray signs at $6 million per year, that is $15.2 million invested in the running back spot. So it seems that at least one person — most likely Polk — would be cut.
