Pedro Martinez will appear on no one's top five Phillies pitchers ever, though one could argue he's the second best pitcher to ever throw for the team. The Expos, Red Sox, Mets, and Phillies righty dominated MLB hitters in the steroid era, a time when 50 home run seasons were par for the course. One could easily take that and make a pretty good argument that Pedro not only deserves his election today, but also should be considered a top ten pitcher ever.
As a Phillie, Pedro joined the Phillies in mid-season 2009. Along the way he became the biggest attraction to ever appear at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown (home of the IronPigs), beat Tim Lincecum in a classic duel, pitched in the NLCS and won his first National League title, and appeared in his second World Series. He did so without the great velocity that he had in Montreal and Boston, but with great off-speed stuff and the savvy of a veteran. He made his final appearance in MLB in Game 6 of the World Series of 2009, fittingly at Yankee Stadium.
