Franco comes up huge in dramatic win against returning Rollins’ Dodgers

WP: Jeanmar Gomez (1-2, 2.19 ERA)  LP: Alex Wood (7-7, 3.65) S: Ken Giles (3)

Philadelphia, PA –  Jimmy Rollins made his long awaited return to Citizens Bank Park and once again found himself in one of the game's most dramatic moments.

Jerome Williams looked comfortable through the first two innings thought it was a different story for the other three of his five frames. Williams would pitch himself into and out of trouble for most of his outing, letting up seven hits, three walks, and finally allowing an RBI knock from Andre Ethier to drive in Howie Kendrick in the 5th. The outing proved good enough for the time being.

Alex Wood handled the Phils well for six innings, holding them to just a run off an RBI double from Odubel Herrera in the third. Wood struck out eight over his outing but when he came back out for the 7th, he lost command. He allowed a lead off single from Carlos Ruiz and Cesar Hernandez and Herrera would reach on walks. Dodgers manager, Don Mattingly had seen enough by that point and went to the bullpen. Joel Peralta would come in for Los Angeles and Maikel Franco would do the damage hitting his first career grand slam to give the Phillies a 5-1 lead.

The excitement did not end there as in the top of the 8th, Jeanmar Gomez worked his way into some trouble allowing a run on an RBI double from Carl Crawford. Pete Mackanin would bring in Ken Giles to face Jimmy Rollins who has had plenty of history of dramatic moments. Rollins worked the at bat but ultimately Giles would strike him out to end the inning.

Domonic Brown would help to add some insurance driving in Freddy Galvis in the bottom of the 8th. Giles had a bit of trouble in the 9th walking Howie Kendrick to lead it off and an error from Ryan Howard off the bat of Ethier made it interesting but Giles finished the game off striking out Yasiel Puig.

It was as dramatic of a win as there is this season. The two teams are back at it tomorrow night at 7:05 with Aaron Harang facing Brett Anderson.
