Freddy Galvis In Hospital, Darin Ruf to Have MRI

This morning, the Phillies announced that Freddy Galvis had been taken to the hospital due to a staph infection on his left leg. The SS had an abcess removed from his left knee earlier this week and an infection grew. Although Galvis' bat has not been the talk of the town this spring, his glove and work ethic have impressed many. With this injury, he could miss 2 to 3 weeks.

Darin Ruf, who strained his left oblique muscle yesterday during BP, will undergo an MRI this morning in order to determine the severity of it. Ruf was a strong candidate for the Opening Day roster as a back up OF/1B, will most likely miss the first few weeks of the season. In 46 AB this spring, Ruf is hitting .217 with 2HR, 7 RBI, and has an OBS of .699.

With Opening Day 10 days away, the Phillies already have a packed DL. Galvis and Ruf join Cole Hamels, Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez, Jonathan Pettibone, and Ethan Martin on the DL.
