Hernandez and Phillies Begin Series Against Struggling Diamondbacks

After an impressive series win against the Dodgers, the Phillies head to Arizona to take on the struggling (putting it kindly) Diamondbacks. The Phillies at 11-11 have a golden opportunity to take on a team that could not have come out of the gate any worse at 7-18 though they did take their last two against the Cubs including spoiling the party at Wrigley Field's 100th birthday celebration on Wednesday.

Roberto Hernandez gets the ball and is looking to turn the page from a rough outing at Coors Field last week which saw him exit after four innings, giving up six earned runs. In the early going, Hernandez has flashed some really positive signs and the stuff looks pretty good. Though he forces a lot of foul balls and runs the pitch count up there pretty quick. He gets a nice chance against a struggling line up tonight.

Josh Collmenter goes for Arizona who is 0-2 with a 4.50 ERA as both a reliever and a starter. Mark Trumbo has landed on the DL, which provides a bit of a break in the power department for the Phils. Tony Campana will play LF tonight. That's great news for the Phillies.

Game Notes:

  • Carlos Ruiz is batting 7th after hitting .571 in Los Angeles looking to carry over his bat to the bottom of the batting order.
  • This is Roberto Hernandez's first career start in Chase Field
  • All Star ballots are out. Way too early to vote for All Stars but Chase Utley is very deserving so far.
