Kendrick, Phillies Look For Series Win In Chicago

Kendrickhit
The Phillies lost yesterday's ball game and allowed the Cubs to tie the series at one-a-piece. Cliff Lee allowed three runs (two earned) over five innings of work. Lee struck out four and walked three in a sloppy start, but he was able to walk away with the no-decision. Zach Miner allowed a solo home run which gave the Cubs the lead to win. After last night's game, the Phillies traded 3B Michael Young to the Dodgers for LHP Rob Rasmussen. Today, without Michael Young in the lineup or the team, the Phils will send out Kyle Kendrick (10-11, 4.40 ERA) to the mound against Jake Arrieta (2-3, 5.91 ERA) in the rubbermatch.

Kyle Kendrick is coming off of yet another loss. This time it was against the Mets, a team he had beaten the other times he's faced them this year. On Tuesday Kendrick allowed five runs (one earned) on five hits through six frames. Walking four and striking out two, Kendrick was dealt his 11th loss of the year. Over his last three starts (17 innings), Kendrick is 0-2 with a 3.71 ERA. Kendrick faced the Cubs on August 8th. The righthander pulled out a win with offensive support after allowing four earned runs over six innings. In his career against the Cubbies, Kendrick is 1-1 with a 2.86 ERA.

Jake Arrieta is coming off of a terrible start against the Dodgers last time around. The righthander allowed a staggering five walks over five innings of work. Not to mention the four earned runs on six hits which dealt him the loss. Over Arrieta's last three starts (16 innings), he has a 1-1 record and a 5.63 ERA. Arrieta has just one career start against Philadelphia in his lifetime. It was not a good one. Arrieta allowed nine earned runs in a four-inning loss when he was with the Orioles.
