Phillies shut down Aaron Nola for the season

Per Jim Salisbury, the Phillies have decided that Aaron Nola will be shut down for the season. It was a nice note to end it on for last season's first round pick. Despite an extra inning loss, Nola pitched five shut out innings yesterday, striking out five and allowing no free passes.

Nola finishes the season 6-2 with the Phillies. In thirteen starts (77.2 innings), he pitched to a 3.59 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, 7.88 K/9, and a 68/19 strike out/walk ratio. Deeper stats show he had a 4.05 FIP and a 3.60 xFIP which are pretty much in line with the results he had.

It was a really nice taste of the majors for Nola this summer and brought a taste of better days as veterans would be shipped out and younger talent would emerge. It's not clear he's an ace but what is clear is he looks pretty polished and seems like he'll only get better with more seasoning as his early years progress.
