It has finally happened.

According to Matt Gelb and sources, the Charlie Manuel Era in Philadelphia is over. A 2:30 press conference was announced just moments ago with no reason given, but it has been all but confirmed it is Manuel's departure. Whether or not it was Charlie's decision to step down has not yet been revealed.

The Phillies, who are a season-worst 14 games under .500 and 20 1/2 games out, will most likely announce Ryne Sandberg as the manager of the team for the rest of the season.

Manuel, 69, led Philadelphia to its first sports title in 28 years and led the Phillies back to the Fall Classic in 2009. Ever since then it has been a downhill ride and it seems that it is finally over for Charlie and the Phils.

Stay tuned for more updates as they come along.
