The Philadelphia Flyers (1-0-0) will look to make it two in a row to start their season when they travel to Glendale for a matchup with the Arizona Coyotes (0-0-0). Game time is 9 p.m.

The two Flyers rookies did not disappoint last night. Travis Konecny had two assists while Ivan Provorov added a helper of his own in Philadelphia's 4-2 over the Kings.

Ivan Provorov made his NHL debut last night in Los Angeles. The rookie defender played in all situations for Dave Hakstol. More importantly, he did not look out of place. Provorov chipped in an assist on Mark Streit's second period goal for his first NHL point.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson has proven to be one of the top point producing defenseman in the NHL over the past few seasons. His 55 points led the Coyotes in scoring last season. He will need to be accounted for whenever his on the ice.

Steve Mason will get the call for Philadelphia tonight. It will be his first start of the season. Mason played a ton of games down the stretch last year for the Flyers. His play was one of the main reasons the Flyers made the playoffs. Unfortunately for Mason, he seemed to run out of gas and was replaced in the series with Washington.

Mike Smith has been one of the league's best goalies over the past few seasons. The emotional netminder had a down year last season however, and will look to shake off the poor 2015-16 tonight.

Recent History

  • Each team has won their home games in each of the past two seasons
  • Last season's game in Glendale featured both captains getting run at hard. Shane Doan was forced to leave the game for Arizona while a late hit on Claude Giroux sparked a nasty scrum at the end of the game.
  • The Flyers and Coyotes have become almost regular trade partners over the last few years. Most recently last offseason when the Flyers traded Nicklas Grossmann and Chris Pronger to Arizona for Sam Gagner and a conditional pick.
