Preseason Game 6 Preview: Flyers-Rangers

By Rob Riches, Sports Talk Philly staff

Hey, these guys look familiar…

Fresh off a 3-2 overtime loss on Monday that saw Travis Sanheim record a pair of goals, further solidifying his case for a roster spot, the Flyers return home for another preseason matchup with the New York Rangers. It may almost seem hard to believe, but it's their first preseason contest on the home ice of Wells Fargo Center.

Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.

Sanheim's been looking sharp for the Flyers lately — three goals in his last two games — about as red-hot as it gets for the preseason. Problem is, those goals have been the only offense that the Orange and Black were able to generate. The Flyers had generated their fair share of chances, they just have to find a way to cash in.

Mikhail Vorobyev was a late call-up from Lehigh Valley, and figures to earn some playing time tonight as well. Vorobyev had previously been sent to Phantoms camp on Sept. 21.

While Claude Giroux told the assembled press after last night's game that he had no issues returning to the left wing tonight, it was not immediately made clear if he would actually be doing so. In his first game on the left wing, Giroux registered a shot on goal and a minus-1 rating in 16:09 of ice time.

Following a strong 28-save effort from Michal Neuvirth in a full 60 minutes of action, Brian Elliott will be starting in goal. Neuvirth will be backing up, though.

While the Rangers iced a predominantly veteran-heavy lineup on Monday — including Ryan McDonagh, who netted the game-winner in overtime — tonight's matchup will be different. This is the last preseason matchup for the Rangers, so the lineup will be mostly filled with young guys and fringe players looking to make one last impression in game action.
