In the first inning of yesterday's 4-3 win over the Toronto Blue Jays, Placido Polanco dove back to first base head first on a pickoff throw and wound up injuring his left ring finger. He toughed it out for an inning, but left the game in the third inning to have x-rays taken. The results of the x-rays came back later yesterday and turned out negative.

Polanco spoke to media this Sunday morning and placed him self as day to day.

"It's a little stiff today and a little swelling," Polanco said this morning. "I jammed it and it's day to day. I just have to see how I feel every day."

Phillies Assistant general manager Scott Proefrock described Polanco's injury as "a little sprain" and said Polly would be out for a couple of days.

Polanco has been plagued by injury since returning to Philadelphia in 2010. Missing a total of 70 games in two complete seasons, Polanco's health has grown a concern among the team. When Polanco slid into first base Saturday, he knew something wasn't right and feared it was something bad.

"When I slid, I saw it and I popped it back in because it was sticking up," Polanco said. "It didn't look good."

I'd say take precaution with Polanco at this point. Let him DH a couple of times to prevent injury on the field. Until then, Ty Wigginton will be filling in at third base.
