Canucks too much for Flyers

The Canucks scored goals in each period. Bo Horvat led the charge picking up a goal and an assist. Ryan Miller made 27 saves. For the third straight game the Flyers could only score one goal and the Vancouver Canucks handed Philadelphia their third straight regulation loss 4-1 on Monday night.

Vancouver jumped on the Flyers early. Claude Giroux turned the puck over just 30 seconds in leading to a Daniel Sedin breakaway. Steve Mason stood tall to deny Sedin but would not be so successful on Vancouver's next shot.

Just 30 seconds later Jannik Hansen beat Mason to give the Canucks the early 1-0 lead. Hansen took a pass in the slot from Bo Horvat and deked the Flyers netminder in tight for his second goal of the season.

Mason rebounded from the goal and made three or four great saves over the next six minutes to keep it 1-0 before the Flyers were able to begin to apply pressure in the Vancouver end.

The Flyers would get a chance to tie the game on the power play late in the first when Jake Virtanen was called for slashing with 1:31 remaining. The Flyers were unable to cash in and the teams went to the locker room with Vancouver holding the 1-0 lead.

Claude Giroux tied the game at the 2:54 mark of the second. The captain took a pass from Jakub Voracek and was able to beat Ryan Miller with a defenseman on his back. Nick Schultz had the other assist.

Vancouver would get their first man advantage at 4:23 of the period when Sam Gagner was called for tripping. Like the Flyers, Vancouver was unable to take advantage of the extra man situation.

Vancouver recaptured the lead at 10:10 as Bo Horvat scored his second of the year. The goal came during a four on four as Giroux and Daniel Sedin were in the box.

The period would with a Radim Vrbata penalty as time was winding down. The peanlty came as the Canucks had the Flyers pinned in their own zone for almost two full minutes. The call happened at 19:50.

The Flyers would carry 1:50 of power play time over to the third with Vancouver holding a 2-1 lead.

Once again they could not capitalize on the man advantage.

After the Vancouver penalty kill, play went back and forth with both teams getting chances. The Canucks would extend their lead at 8:28.

That's when Jake Virtanen scored his first career NHL goal to give Vancouver a 3-1 lead. Virtanen beat Mason high to the stick side on the rush. Ben Hutton had the lone assist.

The Canucks added an empty net goal to seal the deal and defeat Philadelphia 4-1. Mason made 30 saves in the loss.

The Flyers are back at it tomorrow night in Edmonton. Game time is 9:00
