PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Phillies have purchased the contract of veteran RHP Andrew Bailey from Triple-A Lehigh Valley, according to Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com. In a corresponding move, left-hander James Russell has been designated for assignment.

Bailey, 31, was 1-0 with a 1.80 ERA and 1.200 WHIP ratio in five innings this season with the IronPigs. He had 10 strikeouts and surrendered just two extra-base hits against 21 total batters faced. Russell, 30, allowed nine earned runs in 4 1/3 innings this season with the Phillies, posting a 18.69 ERA and 3.231 WHIP ratio.

The Phillies' latest addition to their bullpen is an alumnus of Paul VI High School and a native of Voorhees, New Jersey. He was named American League Rookie of the Year in 2009 with the Oakland Athletics after going 26-30 in save opportunities.

Just two left-handed pitchers remain on the 25-man roster, both in the bullpen: Elvis Araujo and Brett Oberholtzer.
