Scott Laughton, Brandon Manning out Multiple Weeks with Injury

By Kevin Durso, Sports Talk Philly editor

Last season, a long-term injury to Mark Streit opened the door for Shayne Gostisbehere to join the team. The rookie ran with it and is among the guarantees to make the roster this season.

Two more injuries may open the door for two prospects this season. Forward Scott Laughton suffered a lower-body injury at practice on Wednesday and will be out three-to-four weeks. Defenseman Brandon Manning has also not played recently due to an upper-body injury and is listed week-to-week.

With that, two more spots open up and the Flyers will need to cut just one player to finalize the roster at 23, if factoring in the injuries of course.

This essentially guarantees Ivan Provorov a roster spot and makes things look even better for Travis Konecny. The two 19-year-olds have impressed in the preseason and with things coming to close in terms of preseason games, were closing in on potentially winning the roster spots over other players. Injuries can sometimes escalate those decisions and it looks like the Flyers will be using both teenagers as part of the final roster.

The Flyers are in action on Thursday night against the New York Rangers at 7 p.m.
