Flyers’ skid continues with 4-3 overtime loss to Islanders

It took a complete back-and-forth affair in Brooklyn, but the Flyers extended their losing skid to six games.

Josh Bailey, as part of a three-point night, delivered the game-winner just 32 seconds into the extra period, sealing a 4-3 victory on Wednesday for the Islanders. He put back his own rebound, just after John Tavares outmuscled Sean Couturier in the corner to drive possession.

The game had started off innocuously enough, as Taylor Leier and Mathew Barzal traded goals to make it a 1-1 game after 20 minutes. As the second period rolled on, though, the game started to get just a bit off the rails.

Michael Raffl put the Flyers on top 46 seconds into the period, earning his first of the season (just like Leier a period earlier). Johnny Boychuk netted the equalizer on the power play, followed up by a go-ahead tally from Josh Ho-Sang nearly four minutes later. Before the period could end, though, Jakub Voracek countered for a power-play tally of his own.

From there, the game mellowed. A tenuous third period gave way to overtime, where Bailey sealed two points for the Isles.

Ultimately, nine different players recorded a point for the Orange and Black. Nobody recorded a multi-point effort, though, but Voracek now has points in four consecutive games and Ivan Provorv has points in three.

After a perfect 13 saves in relief on Tuesday, Brian Elliott found himself tested, making 35 saves on 39 shots. Thomas Greiss faced a similar workload, also recording 35 saves (albeit on 38 shots).

The Flyers next take the ice Friday, hosting the Islanders in their annual Black Friday game to cap off the home-and-home.
