Flyers End Road Trip with Loss to Canucks

By Kevin Durso, Sports Talk Philly editor

Rumors swirled on Saturday that more changes would be in the near future, regardless of the result in Saturday night's game in Vancouver. The result wouldn't change the minds of management anyway.

The Flyers turned in another forgettable performance, falling to the Canucks, 5-1, on Saturday.

Vancouver got rolling early, getting a goal at 4:13 while there was a delayed penalty call on the Flyers. Chris Tanev got the puck and space opened up, allowing him to walk in and score.

Four minutes later, the Flyers lapses of coverage in the defensive zone continued as Loui Eriksson got time and space and scored, beating Anthony Stolarz with a wrist shot from the slot.

Stolarz exited with an injury after that, making two saves on four shots.

Less than four minutes after that, the Canucks scored again. It was a fortunate bounce as Josh Leivo's centering pass hit Andrew MacDonald's skate and deflected over Alex Lyon.

The Flyers got on the board late in the period on a great individual play by Scott Laughton. Laughton handled a bouncing puck and weaved through the Vancouver defense before lifting a shot over Jakob Markstrom to get the Flyers on the board.

Shots through 20 minutes were 10-8 Flyers.

In the second, the Flyers played a better period overall, but never got a lot of sustained pressure. Vancouver managed to extend the lead midway through the period.

At 12:07, a turnaround shot by Brock Boeser from a distance beat Lyon, making it 4-1.

Shots through two periods were 19-16 Flyers.

The Flyers and Canucks each had power play in the third period, but neither team scored. The Flyers pulled the goalie with just under five minutes left in desperation and Markus Granlund hit the empty net to cap the scoring.

Lyon made 15 saves on 17 shots. Markstrom stopped 31 of 32 shots in the win.

The Flyers return home for their next game on Tuesday night against the Detroit Red Wings at 7 p.m.
