Game Preview: Carter-Williams Sixers’ lone rep for ASG weekend

The Philadelphia 76ers have not had much to show off this season in terms of positive, but on Friday night they will get to showcase their brightest of stars. Rookie point guard Michael Carter-Williams was selected to participate in the BBVA Compass Rising Stars Challenge, which takes place tonight in New Orleans.

Competing in the game will be Team Webber against Team Hill, coached respectively by TNT analysts Chris Webber and Grant Hill. The teams were formed with a draft, much like the NFL Pro Bowl. This is similar to the way teams were formed the previous two seasons, with Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal selecting the teams.

Being a former power forward, Chris Webber likely prefers big men and took Anthony Davis with the first overall pick. Hill countered with Damian Lillard. With the fourth overall selection, it was the former Sixer Webber taking Carter-Williams. At fourth overall, “MCW” was the first rookie to be selected in the draft. Many of course consider him to be the favorite for Rookie of the Year.

Carter-Williams will team up with many of his “rivals”. Two Boston Celtics, a Knick and Net will suit up with him. The teams actually are a bit of a flashback to when the rookies would line up against the sophomores, as Team Webber has just two sophomores, and Grant Hill only selected one rookie, Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks. It was only until 2011 in which the NBA stopped creating teams like that, either all sophomores or all rookies.

If Sixer fans want someone to cheer for or at least a familiar player to watch, Friday will be one of only chance two chances to see a member of Philadelphia’s roster. Saturday, Carter-Williams will participate in the Skills' Challenge. While the Sixers combine to have two appearances over the weekend, Damian Lillard will participate in five events himself. Together the Sixers builtd towards that…
