PHILADELPHIA— One night removed from one of the most memorable nights in recent Philadelphia sports history, Chase Utley's return, the Phillies looked to rebound from a 15-5 loss on Tuesday night and tie the series at one game a-piece.

Before Tuesday's loss, the Phillies were riding a four game winning streak and were looking to gain some ground in a Wild Card race only trailing the second spot by 6.5 games. The loss put them 7.5 games back, and made Wednesday night's contest a little more important.

Jake Thompson took the mound for the Phillies, in only his third big-league start. After allowing six earned runs in his first start and three earned runs in his second start, Thompson was due for a quality third start, however he allowed five earned runs on five hits, and left the game in the fifth inning after throwing 103 pitches.

The Phillies stranded the bases loaded twice during the game including six baserunners in two innings. The lack of run support allowed the Dodgers to cruise away with a 7-2 win, and increase their AL West division lead over the Giants. The Phillies lose their second straight game, and the series vs. the Dodgers.

They'll look to rebound against Los Angeles on Thursday night and attempt to avoid the sweep.

The Phillies got the scoring going in the bottom of the second inning when Freddy Galvis hit a line drive double to center field, and scored Maikel Franco, who walked earlier in the inning. Phillies took an early 1-0 lead.

With a 1-0 lead going into the top of the fourth inning, Jake Thompson was doing an excellent job of staying out of trouble and not allowing any early runs and only two hits. His command issues however, proved to be the same issue in the inning, as he walked Justin Turner with a runner on. Adrian Gonzalez capitalized on the two baserunners and hit a line drive, and hitting his 11th homerun of the season. Dodgers took a 3-1 lead.

The Dodgers weren't afraid to continue the scoring onslaught in the top of the fifth inning as Justin Turner launched his 22nd home run of the year, scoring Corey Seager to extend the lead to 5-1.

The third home run of the game came in the bottom of the sixth inning off the bat of Tommy Joseph for the Phillies, as his 16th home run of the year, his 12th solo homer, brought them closer, now trailing 5-2.

In the top of the seventh inning, Adrian Gonzalez made sure the Phillies would stay as far away as possible, with a two-out, two-run home run off of Edubray Ramos to give the Dodgers a 7-2 lead. It was Gonzalez's 12th homer of the season and his second of the night.
