The Phillies lost Wally Joyner, but a popular ex-Phillie could be taking his place. According to CSN Philly's Jim Salisbury, former Phillies second baseman Mickey Morandini could be a candidate for the open coaching position.
Salisbury says that Moradini has already interviewed:
The Phillies will continue to have two hitting coaches in 2014. One name to watch: Mickey Morandini. He interviewed for the assistant hitting coach’s position while Joyner was in limbo in October. Morandini managed the Phillies’ Single A Lakewood club in 2013.
It sounds like the Phillies did not want to lose Joyner, but certainly were not going to stand in his way of finding a position higher up in an organization. Such a position would be perfect for Morandini, an aspiring big league coach and manager. Steve Henderson will direct the hitting program.
