Sixers drop Utah Summer League Finale

Philadelphia must have enjoyed being in the Utah Summer League so much, they wanted bonus basketball. They and the host Utah Jazz went to overtime in their final Utah League game, before ultimately falling 84-76. This was after they were outscored 10-4 in overtime.

It really was not a pretty game, particularly for the Sixers, on a number of different fronts. For one, they blew a pretty-good sized lead in the fourth. After going on a 20-7 run, they took a six-point lead. It quickly evaporated and Jack Cooley’s two free throws tied the score with 21 seconds left.

Shortly after, Jahlil Okafor had a chance to win the game, but Cooley became a hero on both ends and knocked the ball away from the Sixers’ rookie. They would trade baskets early in overtime, but Bryce Cotton, whom showed himself as the best player on the court, would score eight consecutive points and took control of the extra period for the Jazz.

The 76ers did not play a very good game. As a team, they had only 8 assists, compared to their 25 turnovers. Jordan McRae, playing 35 minutes, did not register a single assist and frankly looked allergic to passing.  He did lead the team with 19 points, however, he only made 1 of 7 threes.

Furkan Aldemir grabbed 15 rebounds, which would allow him to finish the Utah league leading the league with 13.3 rebounds per game. Also, Cooley and Okafor were second and third, respectively.

Jerami Grant had a nice game with 10 points, including this monster slam:

They now move on to the Vegas Summer League. They will play the Lakers, Celtics and Knicks, starting with the Lakers on Saturday.
