Chris Johnson Spoils Cliff Lee’s Final Masterpiece of the Season

Cliff Lee and Kris Medlen locked up for one of the best pitcher duels of the season in Atlanta tonight. Sure you could say both offenses were a bit lifeless as well and some bats were given away on both sides, but those were two great arms tonight.

Kris Medlen pitched eight innings of two hit shut out ball, taking the no hitter into the 6th. Cliff Lee allowed two hits in the 2nd then retired sixteen in a row including striking out the side in both the 4th and 5th innings (He struck out thirteen total). Ultimately it was a home run off Chris Johnson in the 8th which was enough to seal the deal for Medlen and bring in automatic closer Craig Kimbrel who threw a perfect 9th for the save.

Sad end to Cliff Lee's great season. He threw a fantastic game, possibly his best of the season, and gets an L for it. This pretty much sums up my hatred of pitcher wins/losses.

Phillies continue the series in Atlanta tomorrow at 7:05. TBD (Rumored to be Ethan Martin)  takes on Mike Minor.
